Introduction

Dr Barbara Katalin Herke-Fábos, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Law, Faculty of Law, University of Pécs, and teaches in the Family Law and Social Law Group. In addition to the theoretical foundations of the restorative city model, her research examines its potential implementation in Pécs. She focuses particularly on its links with family law and child protection, and on how restorative approaches can support more humane responses to family conflicts, child-protection problems and cooperation between institutions.

Prof. Dr Csongor Herke, DSc is Professor and Head of the Department of Criminal and Civil Procedure Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Pécs, and Head of the Doctoral School of Law. His teaching and research primarily concern criminal procedure, forensic science and the application of artificial intelligence in criminal proceedings. He also examines, from both theoretical and practical perspectives, how restorative approaches can be integrated into local institutional systems and community conflict resolution.

Their joint research explores how the historical, cultural, academic and institutional characteristics of Pécs can support the development of a restorative city model based on trust, dialogue, participation and shared community responsibility.

Conference Objectives

The international hybrid conference aims to present the experiences, operational models and good practices of European restorative cities and to examine jointly how these approaches may be applied in Pécs.

The event seeks to create professional dialogue among researchers, institutions and practitioners and to contribute to the development of a cooperative model for Pécs. Such a model can provide a shared language for the humane handling of conflicts, strengthen cooperation between institutions, and support urban governance based on trust, participation and shared community responsibility.
